Kingdom Week 2012
Let’s be honest. Short-term mission trips are expensive and at face value questionably effective. The most powerful and consistent ministry happens through relationships, relationships that weeklong mission trips do not afford. Trips are a burden to already overworked missionaries, and the impact on the nationals as well as the short term missionaries is difficult to quantify. So why do it?
The answer is simple – changed lives. While Kingdom Week has the potential to truly bless missionaries and ministries and even to rescue souls, the impact on DCC students is undeniable. Standing in the desolation of an impoverished barrio in Mexico, DCC students have caught a clearer glimpse of a God who hates poverty and weeps for the lost. From an orphanage in Guatemala, students saw with new eyes God’s fierce love for people and His utter disdain of our depravity. From the dusty streets of Honduras, students have felt the presence of God’s Kingdom around them, warring for the reconciliation of creation, and they have become powerfully aware of their role in that conquest.
Kingdom Week is simply a tool, a means to an end. Our objective is to hone DCC students to look forward to the day of God and speed its coming, during Kingdom Week and forever beyond. For a week in March, new peoples and cultures will be our classrooms, and new experiences and perspectives will be our teachers. |
