“We share a bond that makes us understand and care about each other.”

I served in the Marine Corps from 1976-1980. It was the post-Vietnam era, so my service didn’t include any deployment to areas of conflict. Instead, my focus was on being prepared to answer whatever call might come. A decade after completing my military service, my wife Cindy and I served six years as missionaries on the island of Guam in the Western Pacific. Several of the members of our church there were active duty military personnel and their families. I found that my previous military experience provided a great connection to minister to these folks. In the same way, I have found that my prior service has helped me connect with our DCC students with a military background. While we didn’t serve alongside each other, we share a bond that makes us understand and care about each other.
