Purpose:
This position will join the Church’s Senior Pastor and Parish Associate, forming a pastoral team to lead the congregation in a variety of ways. Working with all age ranges in the congregation, the Associate Pastor (also referred to as the Director of Mission Development) will be responsible for developing, driving and supporting the spiritual formation and mission focus of individuals in line with the church’s vision and strategy. This role will be responsible for leading outreach efforts in the local community to bring awareness of and interest in SCPC at PH. Additional responsibilities will include filling in for the Senior Pastor.
Organization:
The Associate Pastor will report to the Senior Pastor with oversight coming from the Session and Administrative and Personnel Ministry Team. The position will be a full-time, exempt, salaried staff position. Hours of work will include evening and weekend activities.
Responsibilities:
Specific role will evolve over time as the position is further developed but general responsibilities should include:
– Working closely with all members of the congregation to develop the ‘Daily Practice’ component of the church’s strategy through:
o Developing tools to help individuals connect with God daily, fueling a life of active faith practice
o Championing initiatives around spiritual formation in the church and within the community
o Help establish ‘daily practices’ as the foundation for people to anchor their life of faith
o Guide, direct and nurture individuals in their connection with God to live out faith in action everyday
o Supporting the identification and development of congregant-led service initiatives
– Training individuals for the work of mission in their daily lives
– Working closely with the congregation and respective committees (as needed) to develop and execute the ‘Monthly Service’ component of the church’s strategy through:
o Identifying and coordinating a variety of monthly service projects to actively and joyfully serve our neighbors
o Ensure monthly service opportunities cater to all age groups to allow for all congregants to participate
o Educate and reinforce the importance of participating in monthly service efforts to make a positive impact in our communities
o Promote a sense of sincere gratitude for what Christ has given us and using those blessings to serve others in need
– Cultivate relationships by personal contact, one on one visitation, various group activities of social, spiritual and mission related activities
– Minister to the needs of members inclusive of counseling the various personal and spiritual challenges they often experience
– Effectively communicate opportunities and encourage involvement in the life of the Church
– Coordinating with the Pastor in the leadership of services
– Serving as a welcoming presence for all visitors and finding creative ways to reach out to the community at large
– Assisting the Senior Pastor in all church service responsibilities including but not necessarily limited to:
o Leading Worship Services
o Periodically Teaching Sunday School Classes or Short Term Classes
o Conducting Weddings and Funerals and providing associated counseling
Qualifications and Experience:
– Ordained Minister or be on the Ordination track, PCUSA preferred
– Exhibit mature and growing faith in Jesus Christ with ability to share and lead others to the faith
– Understand and support the SCPCPH vision, mission, values and strategy
– Experience in impactful preaching and teaching
– Ability to develop and implement new tools, practices and programs while working in a team environment
– Demonstrate an encouraging, positive attitude and the ability to translate vision into reality
– Must have strong relationship building skills and a desire to be a leader of the Church
– Demonstrate proficiency in computer skills including social networking
– Attention to detail and follow through on assignments and deadlines
