Biblical Qualifications

 

The Family Pastor will be a man called of God and set apart to the gospel ministry, in accordance with the Cornerstone Statement of Faith, Constitution, and Bylaws, and committed to living and serving in a manner consistent with the standards set forth in Scripture for such a leader. The Family Pastor must be a man who exemplifies a godly character, is compassionate in recognizing and meeting the needs of others, and demonstrates a high level of competence.

 

The Family Pastor will be called by the Holy Spirit and confirmed by a body of believers. (Acts 20:28; Titus 1:5; 1 Timothy 3:1)
The Family Pastor will equip, educate, and edify the church. (Ephesians 4:11-13)
The Family Pastor will willingly exercise sacrificial and humble oversight, as an example to the church. (Peter 5:1-3)
The Family Pastor will joyfully keep watch over the souls of the congregation as one who will give an account, and will teach the Word in all situations at all times, sober-minded and suffering as an evangelist. (Hebrews 13:17; 2 Timothy 4:1-5)
The Family Pastor will meet the Biblical character & ability qualifications for ministry. (1 Timothy 3:1-7;Titus 1:5-9)

 

Educational Qualifications

 

It is preferred that a Pastor of Cornerstone Church of Skippack will have completed a theological degree corresponding to his area of ministry. Ideally, this should be a master’s level theological degree at a seminary grounded in God’s word and historic Christian orthodoxy. In place of a degree, experience will be taken into consideration.

 

Experience Qualifications

 

The Family Pastor should possess a minimum of three (3) years of ministry experience. This experience should include ministry among and to children, youth, and/or parents with some experience preaching to the whole congregation. It is desirable that the candidate have experience serving in a church led by elders. His style and approach to ministry should support Cornerstone’s vision of equipping parents to be the primary disciple-makers of their children.

 

Core Job Responsibilities

The Family Pastor will be expected to:

 

Work a 40 to 50 hour week, largely spent at the church building.
Keep the elders informed of their ministry activities through regular reports. This will update the lay elders on the weekly ministry activity of the church, and will help with accountability.
Participate in the regular preaching rotation.
Report to and work well with the Elder Board, of which he will be a member (as an Elder).
Manage other responsibilities as opportunity, needs, and gifting match up. This may include counseling, mentoring, answering phone calls/texts/emails, filling in for another pastor in appropriate roles as needed, interviewing new members, assisting with (or leading) weddings/funerals/ordinances (baptism, communion), handling child dedications, praying during the worship service, assisting with prayer meetings, welcoming visitors, visiting congregants in the hospital, caring for shut-ins, etc.
Engage in various meetings:
Weekly with the other pastors for encouragement, accountability, and strategy.
Weekly with the office staff for communication and coordination.
Monthly with the elders to help know, feed, lead, and protect God’s people.

 

Primary Areas of Responsibility

 

Children’s Ministry

 

The Family Pastor is responsible to oversee and partner with the Children’s Ministry Director to ensure the children of the church are taught the gospel and the scriptures.

 

Partnership with Children’s Ministry Director

•The Children’s Ministry Director is responsible for coordinating and running the children’s ministry on a weekly basis.

•The Director is also encouraged to develop and implement new ways to train the children to know the Lord.

•The Family Pastor is to support the Children’s Ministry Director in the execution of their position.

Oversight of Children’s Ministry

•The Family Pastor has direct oversight of the Children’s Ministry Director.

•The Family Pastor will ensure that the children’s ministry is in step with elders’ broader vision for the church.

 

Youth Ministry (6th-12th grade)

 

The Family Pastor’s primary area of regular direct ministry will be with the youth.

 

Coordinator

•Oversee the vision and direction of Youth Ministry

•Select or develop curriculum

•Manage schedules for both the Sunday morning and evening teaching rotation

•Schedule regular leader meetings for oversight and planning

•Select and equip new Youth Leaders

 

Leadership Team

•Train up individuals to co-lead/co-teach Youth Ministry

•Take part in the regular Sunday morning and evening teaching rotation

•Attend the majority of youth events and retreats

 

Discipleship

•Personally disciple some of the guys in the Youth Ministry

•Equip male leaders to disciple other guys in the Youth Ministry

•Equip female leaders to disciple the girls in the Youth Ministry

 

Parenting Ministry

 

The Family Pastor is responsible for equipping parents to be the primary disciple-makers of their children.

 

Coordinator

•Develop a long-term plan for how Cornerstone will equip parents to disciple their children

 

Discipleship

•Teach biblical truth on parenting through sermons, Life Groups, and other means

•Understand the needs of families through regular interaction with the parents of children and youth

•Provide Biblical guidance to parents for leading their children in a Godly manner
