Position
We are searching for a Contemporary Worship Leader, who will be excited to set a vision for the musical aspirations and sound arrangements of our church’s collaborative contemporary worship setting. The individual for this role must possess a true belief in the Holy Trinity and Apostle’s Creed, and be willing to gain an understanding of how St. John’s mission and vision fit into God’s plan as it relates to this role.
Responsibilities/Expectations
Lead the group of musicians known internally as the “Praise Team” to cultivate a worshipful environment in the contemporary service, which we call the New Song Service
Schedule and attend rehearsals with the Praise Team, which currently occur weekly on one weekday evening and before each 10:45 AM contemporary worship service on Sundays
Coordinate and collaborate all musical aspects with the Technology Team
Lead or assist in the delivery of all contemporary music needs for special church events and services as requested
Encourage members to use their musical talents as they participate in worship
Attend Worship Planning meetings
Provide prayer support, feedback, and mentoring to Praise Team participants
Initiate and grow the music program and additional initiatives (e.g., coffee house music gatherings, handbell choirs, youth groups) as the needs align with the growth mission of our church
Desired Traits and Skills
Open-minded, team-focused leadership style that will foster growth within the church’s musical outreach
Desire to receive and provide feedback in a collaborative environment
Aptitude for teaching others how to perform music to the best of their abilities with an ear for developing vocal melodies and harmonies
Understanding of how easily the congregation can sing along to songs, based on general congregational vocal ranges
Ability to coordinate with multiple parties simultaneously
Willingness to allow the Holy Spirit to guide you towards choosing songs that fit into the message of each service, as it pertains to St. John’s liturgical schedule
Flexibility in working schedule
Creativity in physically arranging the music equipment and Praise Team members to optimize musical performance, acoustics, and congregation engagement
Education
Education in music at the collegiate level preferred, including a degree or certification in music ministry
