Statement of Purpose: The Associate Pastor of Arts in Worship and Community Life at First Baptist Church of Redlands will foster and promote the blessing of music and the arts as we worship and minister in community. Our intergenerational church has a passion for learning and exploration, a love of the music and the arts, and strong partnerships between professional staff and lay ministers. The person who will fill this position is tasked with utilizing music, creative arts, and related activities to enhance worship, strengthen relationships with God and each other, and grow the arts in our community to build the kingdom of God.
Preferred Skills and Abilities:
Strong Biblical faith matched with a personal commitment to Christian discipleship in everyday life
A theological perspective that embraces the arts as sources of spiritual inspiration and expression
Extensive experience and training in music and arts, and the ability to apply that in a church setting
Engaging personality with strong interpersonal and team building skills and a heart for pastoral care
Ability to work collaboratively with staff members as well as lay commissions to develop
and implement ideas
Organized and responsible, able to carry a project from conception through final implementation
Ability to draw out, encourage, and develop the skills and talents in our congregation and community
Primary Responsibilities for this position:
Music: organize and coordinate the various aspects of the music ministry: choir, worship team, special music, drum circle, organ etc.; lead specific musical groups as appropriate; include children and youth in the music life of the church; invite others into music ministry; help train and mentor volunteer musicians
Arts: Serve as a catalyst for other types of expression in the arts, such as drama, spoken word, visual art, dance, etc.; participate or lead as appropriate; coordinate the creative work of artists and/or artistic teams
Worship: In coordination with the senior pastor, plan worship experiences that people will look forward to; work with staff and lay leadership to include meaningful and inspirational artistic offerings (e.g. music, drama, dance, video, etc.) in the worship service; help improve our online worship experience
Events: plan engaging special events in worship and beyond that feature music and the arts throughout the year; utilize our church campus to showcase the arts and bless our community; coordinate and produce media for online presentation
Connection: personally get to know the members of the congregation and draw out their gifts; encourage artistic expression and growth in faith; help members build and strengthen relationships with one another across generations; build relationships in the wider community that can help our church connect and partner with others in a way that draws them into God’s kingdom
Finally, all staff members are expected to be contributing members of a team that completes the day-to-day work necessary for The First Baptist Church of Redlands to accomplish its mission and ministry.
