Student Resources

As an online student, you have access to DCC resources even if you never step on campus. From tutoring servies to numerous library databases, this page lists online a few of the resources that are available to our current students.

Online Tutoring Services

DCC Online students benefit from their very own Online Tutoring Center. The online tutor provides assistance through "The Scribe" (online writing lab), the Virtual Tutoring Room (web conferencing), the Contact the Online Tutor Form, telephone and email.

The Scribe houses myriad information regarding everything from academic writing styles (MLA and APA) and exegetical writing to creative writing and business and professional writing.

The Virtual Tutoring Room is an online webconferencing room (utilizing microphones and webcams) provided by Megameeting online meeting services. The online tutor is available at specified times (posted in the Online Tutoring Center) during the week in the Virtual Tutoring Room (and by phone) so online students can receive live, on-the-spot assistance.

The Contact the Online Tutor Form enables online students to submit questions and papers for review.

The Online Tutoring Center is located in the DCC Online Student Resources course site on Moodle.

Class Schedules and Books

DCC Online classes are on a term-based rotation in order to better assist online students in planning a schedule to complete their degree plan.
To view the current schedule and the next semester's schedule, go to the student portal at portal.dallas.edu. To order textbooks, go to the Virtual Bookstore.

Class Login: Setting Up Your Account on Moodle
1. Create your account:
  Go to Moodle. Save this site as a "Favorite" or "Bookmark." Click the "Create new account" link and set up your user profile with a username and password.
2. Confirm your account:
  After you create an account, you will receive an email with a link to follow to confirm your account. That email will come to whatever email you put in your user profile. If you don't get that email, check your "spam" or "junk mail" folder to see if the email was filtered. If you still cannot find the email, please contact Moodle Support at moodlesupport@dallas.edu. (Please include your name and your class in your email.)
3. Log in:
  Type in your username and password. (If you forget your password, just click "Forgot Password" (located under the username and password fields), and Moodle will send you a new one.)
4. Find your class:
  Scroll down to see a list of course categories. Click on your category and then click on your course.
5. Enter your class:
  The first time you click on your course, you will be asked for an "enrollment key." The enrollment key for an online class will come to you in an email announcing that the class site is open. In an on-site class, the instructor will distribute the enrollment key.
6. Get started in your class: Start by reading the help files and "Requirements and Grading."

Technical Support

Technical support works to respond within 30 minutes. Technical support is available from 8:30 AM until 11:00 PM CST.
