Christian Service
The Christian service program of DCC seeks to encourage students in finding venues for service during their college years, to help them develop their spiritual gifts for ministry, to gain valuable experience, and to apply what they learn in the classroom to the task of ministry.
-
What is the goal of Christian service? View Answer
All Christians are called to be servants. While these requirements appear at first to be above and beyond the necessary academic work in preparing for ministry, they are at the heart of preparing for service. There is no better way to apply material learned in the classroom than to serve regularly while at DCC. Entering Christian service hours is also a benefit to students as they have a working resume when looking for internships and employment.

Is christian service required for all students? View Answer
Christian service is the goal toward which Christian college education moves. Dallas Christian College thus requires Christian service of all students on a regular basis as required by the Association for Biblical Higher Education and as described in the DCC Student Handbook and catalog. A record of each student's Christian service is kept. Such Christian service involvement is required for graduation as stated in the requirements for graduation. Students are required to receive a passing grade in Christian service for every semester in which they take six or more hours of classes. Each student taking 6 or more hours must participate in a minimum of six (6) hours of Christian service activities per month for traditional student or 14 hours per semester for Quest and Online students.

For Traditional (daytime) Students: If you are primarily a Traditional student, you must submit your Christian Service Report (CSR) during the month in which you performed your hours. Your CSR is due by 11:59 p.m. on the last day of a given month for you to receive credit. For example, your April CSR is due during the month of April. You will not receive credit for your April service hours if you submit them after April 30th.
There are 3 CSR periods per semester for the Traditional student. Traditional students should perform and report on at least 6 hours during the following report periods:
- Fall Semester:
- August/September
- October
- November
- Spring Semester:
- January/February
- March
- April
For Quest and Online Students: Quest and Online students should complete a Christian Service Report at the completion of each class.

What does the Student
Handbook say regarding the purpose of the Christian service program? View Answer
Section 10.1 states, "Purpose of the Christian Service Program: All Christians
are called to be servants. That ministry or service may take various forms:
preaching, teaching, encouraging of others, counseling, visiting of the
sick, administering church and para-church organizations, ministering
to those in prison, meeting the needs of the homeless, the elderly, children,
taking leadership roles in the teaching and worship ministries of a congregation,
and countless more. The Christian service program of DCC seeks to encourage
students in finding venues for service during their college years, to
help them develop their spiritual gifts for ministry, and to apply what
they learn in the classroom to the task of ministry."

What is required
in order to fulfill the Christian service requirements? View Answer
Traditional students taking 6 or more hours must participate in a minimum of six
(6) hours of Christian service activities per month. At the end of the
month, the student then completes his or her Christian service form online. Quest and Online students taking 6 or more hours must participate in a minimum of fourteen (14) hours of Christian Service activities per semester, regardless of how many classes the are taking. We recommend that students conduct and report on seven (7) hours of service per class, but your grade will be based on the 14-hour semester minimum.
