Joplin, MO – The Crusaders of Charles H. Williams needed another upset win and overtime to claim the 2012-2013 ACCA National Championship over the Rhema Eagles 83 – 74! Led by Malcolm McCarty’s 26 pts and a game high 22 rebounds, the Crusaders overcame a 10 pt deficit to force overtime. There were 14 lead changes and 11 ties in a contest that provided excitement worthy of a championship game. Aaron Espinosa added 17 pts and 6 rebounds followed by Robert Washington’s 11 pts and 9 boards. Chad Herring gathered in 10 boards and Max Berman chipped in 8 crucial pts. Rhema led at the half 33-32 but could not hold off the charging Crusaders. The Crusaders got the job done by hold opponents well under their season point averages and shooting percentages. This group of highly competitive freshman and 2 upper classmen barely resemble the group that took started the season with uncertainty. This is the 2nd ACCA Championship for Coach Williams team in the last 4 years. Coach Williams did a magnificent job of preparing this team for the stretch run. A Big Shout-Out goes out to top assistant, Coach Brad Freeman for his tireless support of Coach Williams efforts to keep these young guys focused. We are proud to represent a very strong field of teams in this year’s Tournament that was hosted by Ozark Christian College and Coach Chris Lahm, who did a great job of coordinating and keeping things running smoothly! DCC ‘s Malcolm McCarty was selected to the All-American 1st Team.
