Dallas,TX – Coach Williams’ Crusaders continued their march to the post season by defeating fierce rival, Hillsdale Freewill Baptist College 94 – 89. This was a closely contested game most of the way before the Crusaders blew past the Saints midway thru the 2nd half. The home team had to fight, tooth and nail, to hang on in a wild last 60 seconds of play. Two of Dallas’ top rebounders, Chad Herring and Robert Washington fouled out and left the home team vulnerable against a taller, tough rebounding team with the game in the balance. Malcolm McCarty had 21 pts in his last home game as the team’s only senior. His leadership was really needed tonight. Usually defensive minded guard, Aaron Espinosa, not only wreaked havoc on defense but found a deft shooting touch this night. The Crusaders needed every one of his 26 pts to hold off the Saints’ last minute push to ruin a great Crusader effort. This win makes 4 in a row. We are learning how to close-out games.
Lone senior, McCarty was recognized in a pre-game ceremony with his parents at mid-court. He returned from an All-American season in 2012 to provide leadership for a host young newcomers.
The Crusaders play again this Saturday on the road in Broken Arrow,OK against Rhema Bible College.
The Southwest Regional tournament begins next Thursday, Feb 21 at 8:00 PM vs Hillsdale College in Joplin,MO.
