Dallas Christian College Offers Students New Google Email and Collaboration Solutions

Wednesday, June 3, 2009

Crusader MailDallas Christian College will deploy Google Apps Education Edition™, Google's set of hosted and customizable communications solutions, as part of the College’s IT service offerings, this summer. As a result students will have access to tools including email, shared calendars, instant messaging and word processing all at their @dcc.dallas.edu address.

Returning students are asked to save important information from their current email accounts, before the system is implemented on July 3.  Old accounts will be deleted after the deployment of the new system.

"Adding Google as an education partner means the sky is the limit for DCC students,” Director of Information Technology Rob Lewis said.  “The addition will allow students to use Google Talk to have video conversations with their friends or parents back home.  They will be able to use instant messaging, or share a group project with students around the world.  The Dallas Christian College campus has one more tool to help spread God’s Word around the globe.”

The new system will allow students to gain access to the following services:

  1. Crusader Mail (Gmail) - provides gigabytes of email storage, highly effective spam filtering and powerful search;
  2. Google Calendar - allows easy coordination of work or class schedules, meetings and events online;
  3. Google Talk - supports free PC-to-PC voice calls and instant messaging;
  4. Google Docs - allows users to create and collaborate on documents and spreadsheets in real-time;
