Dallas Christian College Joins World Community Grid
To make this vision a reality, Dallas Christian College has become a partner of World Community Grid, joining IBM Corporation and a group of more than 324 companies, associations, foundations, nonprofits and academic institutions. A Message from President Rubeck "During the last two years, my dad has fought cancer as it tried to ravish his body. He has undergone multiple surgeries, weeks of radiation, more pills than you can count, and a great deal of time resting to recover from this disease and its treatments. Throughout this ordeal, our family and friends have joined together with prayers and support to strengthen him. Meanwhile, cancer continues to visit its “dark shadow” on families around the world. On July 20, 2006, World Community Grid launched an effort that will assist in cancer research using the massive computing power of the Grid. The Help Defeat Cancer project will use World Community Grid to analyze tissue microarrays (TMA) – a new investigative tool that will ultimately help doctors select proper treatments and provide accurate prognosis for cancer patients. To make this project a reality, Dallas Christian College has become a partner of World Community Grid, joining the IBM Corporation and a group of more than 220 organizations. Millions of personal computers sit idly on desks and in homes worldwide. World Community Grid technology joins together these individual computers, creating a large system with massive power that far exceeds the power of a few supercomputers. Now DCC is encouraging you to contribute your idle PC time by joining World Community Grid and then becoming a member of the Dallas Christian College team. (Look for the option to join a team after you've become a member of the World Community Grid.) To join, go to www.worldcommunitygrid.org and simply download and install a free, small software program on your computer. When on and idle, your computer requests data from World Community Grid’s server. Computers then perform computations using this data, send the results back to the server and prompt it for a new piece of work. Please become a member today and don’t forget to join the Dallas Christian College team." Dustin D. Rubeck
