General Information about Financial Aid
Your Award Letter
Upon completing the necessary requirements to receive Financial Aid at
DCC, you will receive an Award Notification Letter. This award letter
will detail the amount(s) of financial aid you are eligible to receive.
Your financial need is determined by taking your cost of attendance and
subtracting the amount you and/or your family are expected to contributed
(EFC) toward that cost. The Expected Family Contributor is calculated
from the date you submitted on your Free Application for Federal Student
Aid (FAFSA).
Grants, scholarships, third party payments and exceptions
are "gift aid" which do not need to be repaid. College
Work-Study is on-campus employment. Stafford Loans are loans
from the bank of your choice, that must be repaid upon completion of your
degree program, or when you drop below half-time enrollment. Your award
letter may indicated one or all of these types of aid programs.
In order to receive this aid, you must comply with all applicable grant
or loan program rules and regulations, college policies, and financial
aid procedures, including maintaining Satisfactory Academic Progress.
Changes to Student Information and Deadlines
Your award is based on the information you provided to the Office of
Financial Aid at the time your application was reviewed. Changes to the
information (e.g. additional scholarship funds from outside sources or
VA benefits) must be reported in writing to the Office of Financial Aid.
The Office of Financial Aid reserves the right to review and/or modify
your award at any time. In order to secure funding for Fall registration
time, you must have all financial aid documents in the Office of Financial
Aid by June 1st.
Release of Funds
Pell eligibility will be established during the semester you have applied
and have been fully admitted to DCC. This includes completing an application
for admissions, declaring a degree seeking major or a certificate program,
and submitting your final high school transcript, GED, or academic transcripts
from other institution(s) to the Registrar's Office. You financial aid
cannot be disbursed until you meet all eligibility requirements.
Grant Programs
Pell Grants: A federal grant awarded to students based on their expected
family contributions (EFC). You must be enrolled in at least three(3)
hours to receive this grant.
The amount listed on your award letter is based on full-time (12 or more
hours) enrollment and will be prorated based on your actual enrollment
as of the 12th class day of each semester.
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG):
(SEOG): A federal grant available to students who are Pell eligible and
have exceptional need. You must be enrolled in at least six hours to receive
this grant.
Federal College Work-Study (CWS):
Federal Work-Study (CWS) permit students to earn funds to help pay their
college expenses. CWS is generally awarded at 18 hours per week. Payment
is made twice a month.
All students awarded CWS must come to the Student Development Office
for job placement. Please call our office no earlier than two weeks prior
to the first day of class to be placed in the CWS program. CWS funds are
limited and in high-demand. A College Work-Study award does not guarantee
employment. Students must interview and be hired by a department.
Federal Stafford Loan
If your award letter includes a Federal Stafford Subsidized or Unsubsidized
Loan amount on it, your loan eligibility will be transmitted to your lender
approximately 48 hours from the date you submit your Master Promissory
Note (MPN). Upon approval, your lender will send you a disclosure statement
detailing your total loan amount, individual disbursement amounts, and
projected disbursement dates. If you are a freshman and never attended
college your first disbursement will be issued 30 days from the first
class day of the semester. All loan recipients must perform entrance counseling,
be fully admitted, be enrolled in at least six academic progress prior
to disbursement. Students should reference the loan promissory note cover
or contact the Office of Financial Aid for more information about loans.
DCC does review loan requests for additional funding levels. Students
are required to apply for additional monies needed on a separate request.
Financial Aid Disbursements
Students may charge tuition and fees, books, supplies, dorm and meals
to their grants provided charges were authorized on the TC Application
for Financial Aid. Refund check notices will be mailed to students, notifying
of when refund checks are available.
