In the Spotlight: Lori Nij, Class of '78
Lori Nij: Person of Influence
Lorelai Pinney Nij was the first of the Pinney family to attend
DCC. Lori graduated in 1978 as the first woman to deliver a senior
sermon. After graduation, she became Dean of Women and professor
at Colegio Biblico in Eagle Pass, Texas where she met an older student
name Queno Nij. Upon his graduation Lori and Queno returned to his
hometown of San Raymundo in Guatemala, married and went to work
ministering to the community.
In San Raymundo, Lori and Queno began a medical ministry that blossomed
into the Community Christian Hospital, providing medical services
to thousands each year. They also turned an orphanage into Morning
Glory, a fully accredited primary school with over 500 students.
Under Lori’s direction, the school has become one of the most
respected schools in Guatemala, recognized for scholastic, drama
and dance programs.
Lori and Queno continue to minister to the whole country of Guatemala,
working with medical missions to the jungles, and helping to provide
a fresh water supply. Lori also works on government educational
planning committees.
In 2006 Lori was presented with the Person of Influence Award by
President Dusty Rubeck on the occasion of her return to the pulpit
of the Barr Chapel.
